The absurdity of Laren's sacrifices make them seem all the more divine at the end of her life. Great story.

Thank you! I'd read a biography of St. Hildegard of Bingen recently, and she'd spent time as an anchoress with an fellow "inmate," and the whole thing seemed wholly beyond my ability to survive without resorting to homicide, haha (for the record, it suited her poorly as well). But it was a real thing that people would do in the Classical and Middle Ages. Hermits who would trap themselves on top of a pillar, anchors who would Cask of Amontillado themselves into a cell next to the chapel ... it seems extreme, though maybe they were just extreme introverts.

Interesting. A real 'stranger than fiction' scenario.
